A man who likes to think outside of the box, Alan retired as battalion chief for the Raton Fire Department after twenty years of service due to an injury he sustained on the job. Still a young man and not one to sit still for long, Alan decided to try his hand at sales landing a job with United Chevrolet here in Raton. Like geese take to Lake Maloya, Alan took to sales and word got around. Jim Roper, owner of 93.9 KRTN at the time, offered Alan a job as sales manager in 1994. He continued to develop skills in radio advertising here at FM 93.9 for the next eight years. Then, in 2001 Alan made a move to print media when an opportunity to work for the Chronicle News in Trinidad Colorado came available. As General Manager Alan brought success to the Chronicle News and also the Huerfano County World, increasing advertising sales and expanding the territory covered by both papers.

Since returning to FM 93.9, Alan created the program Superstars of Business. This new program has become so popular that it is now sponsored by Pioneer Natural Resources. Superstars of Business airs Monday through Fridays at 9:30 am. Alan’s newest initiative is an advertising opportunity for individuals, national and local businesses and area organizations on the Legends page.

Alan is always looking for new ways to promote our local businesses and grow our local economy. Give him a call to discuss your ideas. Together you can create a promotional package that will meet your needs.

For years, KRisTiNa was a frequent guest on KRTN’s This, That & the Other morning show. One day, she didn’t leave. Active in northeastern New Mexico’s arts community, she’s been promoting creativity on the show since returning in 1999 to her home state of New Mexico after 8 years in Dallas where she was a costume designer for theatre and TV, President of the Dallas Women’s Caucus for Art, and regular in the local poetry scene as a performance artist & poet.

KRisTiNa brings many creative talents to the mix here at KRTN, wielding her poet’s voice and artist’s eye in the job. She is excited about developing an on-air personality, voicing ads, and developing social media.

Thrilled to be working for 93.9 KRTN Enchanted Air Radio, she loves making the voices visual and spreading the good word about northeastern New Mexico and southeastern Colorado.

JIM VELTRI

Jim VeltriStation Engineer

Jim Veltri, a real wiz kid, has been taking care of the electronics at KRTN radio for twenty-five years now. Born in Hoehne, Colorado, to a ranching and farming family, he was always curious about how electronics worked. His interest led him to pursue an electrical engineering degree and he graduated from Trinidad State Junior College in 1972 with an AAS in Electronic Technology and Computer Maintenance.

His first job out of college was at ARF Products in Raton where he was a product engineer and also took care of electronic maintenance.

Jim is also an electrical engineer for Stolar Horizons. He likes to tell a good story and thinks his job, taking care of the electronics, is much easier in his opinion, than the “hard work” that KRTN radio’s DJ’s have to do.

Jim has a pilot’s license and used to fly a Cherokee 140 PA28—140. He’s sold the plane but he makes sure the music, news, information, and great ads that KRTN radio presents are all on the air!

MARTY MAYFIELD

Marty Mayfield is a familiar face in our area, photographing news and area sports. Born and raised in Clayton, New Mexico, he has fond memories of his childhood, doing the things kids do and helping out on his grandparents’ ranch. He began his photojournalist career over 30 years ago, while attending Clayton high school, photographing the life and times for the school paper and yearbook.

While the Army took him away for a short time, his heart remained in Northeastern New Mexico and he returned home in 1983. He found work in electronics and began dabbling in news reportage. He was a news stringer for KVII-TV in Amarillo and KOAT-TV in Albuquerque and served as the news director for KLMX Radio in Clayton for two years.

In high school, Marty recalls that his newspaper/yearbook advisor told him to, “Get up there, get in the way, and get the picture”. He warned that folks might be mad when you take the picture, but they will love you when they see the photos. Marty has maintained that philosophy throughout his career. He takes pride in bringing those special photos to parents and grandparents. That same philosophy works for news coverage. Marty is out in the field, getting the story and the images that make it all real for all our listeners.
